MEET TYRONE JACOBS JR.
Life started incredibly difficult for Tyrone. At birth, he was born premature, and needed an emergency operation on his lungs to save his life. He then spent months in the ICU post-operation until recovery. You could say, fighting for Tyrone isn’t new.
He grew up in an environment filled with drugs, gangs, crime, you name it. Poverty was all he once knew. He learned early on to work with you have, be grateful, and humble —- because life can change it’s course at any moment.
Tyrone witnessed his mother work tirelessly, and, in spite of that, struggle extremely hard to provide for him and his older sister. This later would serve as a point of reference to fight and free himself from those poverty stricken conditions.
Tyrone spent his adolescent years depressed, suicidal, and unsure if he had the will to live. His father was incarcerated for majority of his life, and he had an estranged relationship with both his mother and sister.
He, unfortunately, was a bystander in seeing in his mother and sister involved in dysfunctional, unhealthy, toxic, abusive relationships. You can only imagine what that would do to someone his age at the time (14).
Most of his childhood friends are now in present day serving life sentences in prison, or, are dead.
Instead of succumbing to those things around him, Tyrone decided, at 18 years old, it was time for a change.
Academics and standardized testing did not come easy to Tyrone. He always had to overwork and overstudy to meet expectations. He scored an 18 on the ACT, and did not perform that well in high school until his senior year, landing a 4.1 Honors GPA before he enrolled in college later that year.
He enrolled in college and declared electrical engineering. He did not have examples of success and greatness around him growing up. He knew that if he just applied himself and stay dedicated to it, that, he could see it through.
He then went on to graduate with his degree, and work for multiple high profile Fortune 500 Aerospace and Defense Contractors.
In present day, he works as a contractor for NASA, for various historic space missions and programs. His team works on hardware that is used for various government and military space vehicles and applications.
He often gives speeches to children and students on overcoming adversity, obstacles, and how you can impose your will over your circumstances to achieve the success your heart desires.
Tyrone is a huge supporter, member, and advocate of the following organizations: National Society of Black Engineers, Student African American Brotherhood, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. — to name a few.
All in all, Tyrone believes one thing. We all can be successful and great. No matter the conditions life throws at us. We just have to push ourselves past our limits, and impose our will. No excuses. Just faith, hard work, and dedication.
Life begins and ends in the mind, and if you can conquer your mind, you can achieve your wildest dreams and aspirations.
